How to send artwork for embroidery digitizing

A good embroidery file starts with a good request. Five pieces of information get it right the first time, with no back and forth.

1. The sharpest artwork you have

Vector files (AI, CDR, PDF, SVG) are ideal because they show the exact outline. If you only have an image, send the largest and sharpest one: social media screenshots and photos of paper get in the way.

If the logo has several versions, send the simplest one. It usually stitches better.

2. The width you will stitch

An embroidery file is made for one size. A 9 cm (3.5 in) left chest logo and the same logo at 25 cm (10 in) on the back are two different files, with different density and detail.

3. The fabric or garment

Polo shirts, knit tees, twill, caps, towels and jackets need different underlay and density. Telling the fabric prevents puckering and stitches sinking in.

4. The placement

Chest, sleeve, back, cap front, cap side. The placement sets the maximum size and, on caps, even the stitch order.

5. Your machine format

DST, PES, JEF, EXP… If you are not sure, tell us the brand and model of your machine. The wrong format may not open at all, or open with the wrong colors.
