Embroidery on towels: how to keep stitches visible
Towels are gifts, home textiles and corporate giveaways, and one of the trickiest fabrics to embroider. The pile swallows fine stitches and the name disappears. Three precautions keep the embroidery whole.
Water-soluble topping
A layer of water-soluble film on top of the towel flattens the pile while the needle works. It washes away afterwards. Underneath, your usual stabilizer holds the fabric.
Underlay that flattens the pile
A towel file has stronger underlay under the design, pressing the pile down before the top stitches. For names, some embroiderers even add a light fill behind the text area.
Bolder letters and lines
Fine detail and delicate lettering do not show on terry. Prefer fonts with thicker strokes and a slightly larger size than on a tee. A single-pass outline disappears.
Say it is a towel in your order
The same artwork digitized for a tee and for a towel comes out different. When you tell the fabric, the file comes with underlay, density and compensation planned for the pile.
